Setting the standard on day 1

Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) yesterday opened its 2012 Scotiabank National High School Track & Field Championships at Thomas A Robinson Stadium. Though no overall champion will be decided, teams began the three-day meet to vye for the top boy and girl honours in the under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-20 divisions. The championships feature teams from New Providence, Grand Bahama and the Family Islands. Meets With the performances produced thus far this year at the BAISS and GSSSA meets, the stage has been set for keen matchups between powerhouses such as the St Augustine's College Big Red Machine, Queen's College Comets and CR Walker Knights. The Big Red Machine is coming off their 24th consecutive victory in the BAISS by just 48 points over the Comets, while the Knights took their ninth consecutive GSSSA title by 318 points over their nearest competitors.
