Still in the running

By LESH THE BAHAMAS is still in the running, after American Idol concluded its first two rounds of Hollywood week. Bahamian contestant and Idol hopeful Mathenee Treco made it through to the next round, after competing last week. His Wednesday audition was not edited into the television show, but it is safe to say, his rendition of "Play The Game" was good enough to get him through. Taking to his Facebook page, the 25 year old shared the good news with his fans. "Day 1 of Hollywood: Done! I did make it! They didn't show my song, but there were about 350 of us. Day 1 is nothing compared to the next. Off to group rounds," said Mathenee. Laura Clarke*, a Mathenee fan, told In Ya Ear: "This just makes me so happy as a Bahamian. We have so much talent in this country that has yet to be seen world wide. And my prayers are with Mathenee that he makes it very far in the competition and the victory will be his." Jayde Cooper*, another fan said: "When I didn't see him on Wednesday's episode, I got a little worried. But when I saw he made it through after watching Thursday's episode, I was just so ecstatic about it. I just hope he keeps his focus on the prize and wins the competition. We are still early on in the competition, but who knows, fingers crossed." Last week's episodes had several unforgettable moments. Symone Black, for instance, fainted on stage after singing her rendition of Otis Redding's "Sitting On The Dock Bay". The 16 year old appeared to be quite fine until she began rocking during the judge's critique, as if she was not feeling too well. Symone wobbled until she lost consciousness and fell directly off the stage, in front of judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. The show opened the following night with Symone at the hospital with a doctor advising her to eat properly and rest. Even though she was not present to hear the results, Symone did make it through to the next round. Another stand out event was the surprising cut of Jim Carrey's daughter, AI contestant Jane Carrey. After her initial audition, Jane developed a following. Fans fell in love with her voice and the fact that she is indeed the daughter of the comedic icon. But the contestant's road to the AI winning prize ended last week. Judges were not impressed by Jane's rendition of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Looking Out My Back Door", and decided to send Jane home. The remaining contestants are set to perform this week in various groups. Encouraging his friends to stay tuned in , Mathenee said: "If anyone tuned into Idol last night, you probably saw the beginning of the drama that is my group 'Make You Believers'. Trust me, it is about to get very interesting." *Names have been changed.
