TELEPHONE DISRUPTION RESOLVED

BTC announced today that the disruption in telephone services affecting residents of Mangrove Cay for the greater part of a week has been resolved and that all services are back to normal. The outage, affecting both voice and internet services, was occasioned by a faulty network element, the company said. "We apologise for this extended outage and all of the very real inconveniences it caused to the residents of Mangrove Cay," said Geoff Houston, CEO of BTC. "We recognise and accept as well that we could have done a better job of communicating the situation to the residents of Mangrove Cay, so for that as well, let me extend my apologies and assure residents of the community that we will be more responsive on matters like this going forward, wherever they may happen." Mr Houston said BTC will provide some measure of compensation to the customers affected, including relief on the charges for the service as well as credit for mobile customers. "It is our way of compensating customers for the inconvenience," he said. The CEO also said BTC will meet with the residents of Mangrove Cay in a town meeting in the near future to discuss the matter and future plans for telecoms in the community.
