Rotary golf event moved due to election

A ROTARY club has rescheduled its fundraising golf tournament because of the General Election on May 7.

The Rotary Club of East Nassau & The Scout Association of The Bahamas' 26th Annual Charity Golf Tournament has been rescheduled for Monday, May 21, at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island.

The event has been one of the Rotary Club's primary fundraising activities for the past 25 years, consistently raising more than $110,000 each year from entry fees and sponsorships to help the Scout Association and other worthwhile charities supported by East Nassau Rotary.

Due to the way Rotary is funded, with all administrative costs covered by club members, 100 per cent of the proceeds from fundraising events go to Rotary-sponsored community service projects and organisations.

In addition to the Scout Association, East Nassau Rotary supports Project Read, an adult literacy program; The Bahamas Diabetic Association; The Bahamas Association for Social Health; The Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled and Thelma Gibson Primary School in Elizabeth Estates.

The golf tournament takes the format of a two-person scramble, with the top prize awarded to the team with the lowest net score. Hole-in-one prizes are being provided by Nassau Motor Company, Executive Motors, John Bull, and Marlin Marine.

A platinum sponsor has yet to be named for this year's tournament, but the following companies have committed to gold sponsorship: Bahamas Wholesale Agencies/Festival, Kerzner International, Royal Star Assurance, RBC, Easy Car Sales, The Tribune, 100 Jamz, and Scotiabank.
