On Saturday 'head for the coast'

BAHAMIANS are gearing up for a Fun, Run, Walk on Saturday to celebrate Coastal Awareness Month. The National Coastal Awareness Committee (NCAC), which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, is encouraging all Bahamians to get fit and join the fun, for a healthy purpose.

"The entire Bahamas is considered a coastal zone. The health of the marine and coastal environment has direct impacts on the environmental, social and economic well-being of every Bahamian," said Earlston McPhee, NCAC chairman.

During Coastal Awareness Month, the committee is encouraging Bahamians to head for the coast to join in planned activities, such as Saturday’s Fun, Run, Walk and beach cleanups planned this year.

The NCAC event follows on the heels of a busy month for fitness and fun, but with its Fun, Run, Walk, the NCAC hopes to promote healthy waistlines, while promoting healthy coastlines. The committee hopes the event will "invoke a deeper appreciation" for the coastline while creating an awareness of the importance of preserving the sustainable development of the Bahamas.

The route for the event runs from Arawak Cay to Goodman's Bay and back, with an alternative route from Arawak Cay to Skyline Drive and back. Registration will begin at 5:30 am and the walk will start at 6:00 am.
