Boys injured in shooting

TWO teenage boys are fighting for their lives in hospital after being shot late Monday night.

Police say the victims, ages 17 and 15, were at Peter Street between Market Street and Baillou Hill Road at around 9pm when they were approached by a man who shot them. The boys were taken to hospital where they are listed in serious but stable condition.

• A 47-year-old man is in police custody after officers discovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana.

At about 4.15pm on Monday, officers from the Central Detective Unit were on routine patrol near the corner of First Street and Palm Tree Avenue when they observed the driver of a silver Honda Accord acting suspiciously. Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped off.Officers pursued the vehicle and intercepted it in the area of Third Street and Poinciana Drive after it collided with a van. A search of the van revealed five pounds of suspected marijuana with an estimated street value of $5,000.

• In three separate incidents on Monday, police removed three handguns and a bullet-proof vest off the streets of New Providence.

In the first incident, around 2pm, police conducted a search of an abandoned building on Hay Street off Market Street, discovering a handgun and some ammunition.

In the second incident, officers from the Mobile Division arrested three men after finding another handgun and a bullet-proof vest.

Police say around 6pm, officers from the Mobile Division were on routine patrol in Sunset Park when they observed the occupants of a silver and black Honda Civic acting suspiciously.

A search was conducted and the items were found.

In the third incident, around 10pm, Mobile Division officers uncovered a handgun at Wellington Street off Baillou Hill Road.

According to reports, the officers were on routine patrol when they observed two men acting suspiciously.

It is reported that on seeing the officers, the men fled.

The gun was found in the area where the men had been standing.

Active police investigations continue.
