Bahamas likely to escape effects of tropical storm

The Bahamas will most likely escape the effects of Tropical Storm Ernesto which is now moving through the southeastern Caribbean Sea and is projected to become the season’s first hurricane by Monday.

At 5pm yesterday, the US National Hurricane Centre reported that Tropical Storm Ernesto was located about 210 miles west of St Lucia and about 3,240 miles south-southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The storm was moving towards the west near 21 miles per hour and was expected to resume this general motion for the next couple of days. According to the forecast track, Ernesto will be moving across the eastern and central Caribbean Sea during the next 24 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts.
