Ranford Patterson, president, the Bahamas Christian Council, paid tribute to Mr Maynard.

He said: “We, the Bahamas Christian Council, are saddened by the sudden death of Mr Charles Maynard. This is a sad day for the Bahamas.

“Mr Maynard was well loved and respected by the entire community and he served his family and our country well.

“He was a rising star in politics in the Bahamas. Mr Maynard was considered one of the new generation of leaders for the Bahamas. The Bahamas has lost a great son. He had so much to offer.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Zelena and children, the entire Maynard family and the Free National Movement family on the passing of Charles Maynard.

“We are not in a position to say why, but, you can rest assured that God would not put more on you than you can bear. Our prayers are with you. May God bless you and comfort you in this time of loss.”
