AS MANY around the world continue to recognise the Bahamas for its achievements in athletics, Prime Minister Perry Christie took the time to laud the efforts of some of the country’s youngest cultural ambassadors – the Bahamas National Children’s Choir – on their recent bronze medal win in China.

The choir came third at the 11th China International Chorus Festival and International Federation of Choral Music World Choral Summit in Beijing.

Mr Christie said: “I was returning to the Bahamas and when I walked into the area for the Bahamasair flight, I met the Children’s Choir and they sang a song for me. They surrounded me and sang a song for me and told me that they had won the bronze.”

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr Danny Johnson said: “There is so much talent in the Bahamas, especially in culture. We are absolutely elated and we are very proud of them.

“One of the things that we are about in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture is the pursuit of excellence. Where we find this pursuit in young people representing their country – when one puts on their national colours and represent their country and achieve excellence at a high level – we are all proud and we want to show our recognition, complete adulation and appreciation for the achievements they have managed to produce. It makes us all proud to be Bahamians.”
