Giving an update on the progress of the $3.5 billion Baha Mar mega resort, Mr Wu said the project is currently on schedule with construction of all four hotels ongoing, having reached the 12th floor of the Baha Mar Hotel and Casino and the Convention Centre reaching the 5th floor, as well as continued demolition of the Wyndham Resort.

While significant progress has been made, Mr Wu said there is a lot more to be done before the project is completed.

“We still have lots of work to do - you can see there is a lot of extra work for the pools, landscaping, bridges and show lights, it is still quite an undertaking to get the whole project delivered,” he said.

Following a tour of the construction site, Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes said the project underlines the confidence international investors have in the Bahamian economy.

He said: “This whole project represents a tremendous vote of confidence in our Bahamas, the Bahamian people, in the economic potential of the Bahamas and in our institutions and in our political stability - this is a huge vote of confidence.

“You can see for yourself what a magnificent project it is and it will benefit us on many many levels - it will provide jobs for Bahamians in the future, good paying jobs and I think it is just quite wonderful.”

The mega resort which is scheduled to open in December 2014 will offer some of the world’s most famous hotel brands, including Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, Morgans Hotel Group (Mondrian Hotels) and Hyatt Hotel and Resorts. The four hotels will bring on stream more than 2,200 new rooms.
