BAHAMIAN tennis ace Mark Knowles and Xavier Malisse of Belgium lost to American twins Bob and Mike Bryan 6-3, 6-2 at the French Open yesterday.

The second-seeded Bryan brothers reached the men's doubles quarterfinals. They won the 2003 French Open and are seeking their record 12th Grand Slam title in men's doubles. They next play Oliver Marach of Austria and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina.

Mike Bryan also made it to the quarterfinals in mixed doubles with Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic, after Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Horia Tecau retired while trailing 5-3.

Bob Bryan and his mixed doubles partner, Serena Williams, lost in the first round.
