Renaldo's Ramblings: 'Hard Knocks-Easy Watch'

SO it has come to this. After years of futility and nothing better on the horizon, am I prepared for the best part of the Dolphins season to be a preseason reality show? Absolutely. After several teams declined to appear now know that the Dolphins will appear on this summer's installment of HBO's Hard Knocks.

The Dolphins announced yesterday that they will appear on HBO series that chronicles one NFL team's training camp. The show will air weekly, beginning on Tuesday, August 7.

In a football city, local interest for the Dolphins is the lowest it has been in my lifetime.

Three straight losing seasons, a terrible colour scheme of a uniform that has run its course, no top players on its roster and being overshadowed by the Heat and Rick Ross have left the Dolphins desperate to generate buzz.

There's nowhere to go but up and if the Dolphins aren't any good on the field, they should at least be entertaining right?

Here's what's going to keep us watching:

  • Gratuitous Lauren Tanehill scenes: When the Dolphins drafted Ryan Tanehill, they drafted Ryan Tanehill's entire family. That family just so happens to include a statuesque model wife. From the minute his name was announced on draft night, Ryan took a backseat, but let's face it, seeing Lauren probably sured up any confidence the Dolphins' front office had in his decision-making ability.

  • Joe Philban's growing frustration as he realizes he's not in Green Bay anymore: I think this may be the first time in television history that we get to watch a tumor grow within a person. I don't think he knows yet that his life just went from Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and Donald Driver to Matt Moore, Brian Hartline, Legadu Naanee and Devon Bess.

  • From a purely statistical standpoint, every team that has gone into a season of "Hard Knocks" with a losing record has gotten better.

  • Reggie Bush and the Kim Kardashian storyline: Maybe it's just me, but if I was a professional athlete, 40 per cent of my day would be dedicated to making fun of my teammates. Other than working out, learning the playbook and working on endorsement deals, I have no idea what could be more important. Who's going to be the first 'Fins player to walk into the locker room in a Kris Humphries or Miles Austin jersey? Or the first to just sit next to Reggie and play and endless stream of Kanye West and Ray J songs? Karlos Dansby...make this happen.

  • The Marlins and the Dolphins have reality shows in the same season. What if the Heat follows through with one as well. Although you can argue that ESPN itself has been the Heat's reality show since LeBron made "The Decision." This could finally be the identity Miami fans have been searching for. "We leave the games early to watch the reality shows at home."

  • This could provide clarification for Bahamians that Ft Lauderdale is indeed not Miami. This is a pretty big one.

  • The level of activity among single female suitors in South Florida should increase (You have no idea how long it took me to word that properly without crossing the PG-13 line). This can only improve free agency opportunities for the Dolphins since the world will be watching.

  • Matt Moore on not needing a No.1 receiver: "There's always in the past been a go-to target on every play," Moore told thePalm Beach Post. "But in this offense you can have Hartline lined up as the No. 3 receiver on one play and No. 1 on the next play. And it can be the same play. So you're not pigeon-holed into anything on any certain play. You can go full-field progressions and there's no pressure to get the ball to any one specific guy. So you can just go back there and wing it."

Can somebody explain to Matt Moore the not so subtle difference in a No.1 receiver and the No.1 option on a play? This should be interesting.

The 2012-13 Miami Dolphins ladies and gentlemen... "just go back there and wing it," we have no choice but to watch this.
