THE BAHA MAR beach restoration project will bring Cable Beach back to its 1970s shoreline.

Dispelling fears that the Baha Mar development is destroying Cable Beach, development representatives explained that the new rock wall is only the first phase of a larger beach extension exercise.

According to Senior Project Manager Adam Piers, the beach restoration programme will be completed in two phases, the first phase is the surge wall protection works, which stretches from the eastern end of the Baha Mar development site to the Wyndham Nassau Resort.

With the first phase currently underway and expected to be completed in the next few weeks, Mr Piers said these are the works that the public are witnessing at the moment.

He said works are “being put in place to provide a basis of bringing the beach back to 1970s shoreline and also to protect the Baha Mar development from any severe weather”.

The second phase will concentrate on the offshore breakwaters. Mr Pier said work has already begun with setting out the control markers, following which, the offshore boulder protection works will begin.

This will provide protection for future snorkeling and other water based activities, he said.

“Once these works are completed in the latter part of this year the sand will be progressively introduced to provide a continuous beach, similar to that of the 1970's, going from Goodmans Bay through to the western end of the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort,” Mr Piers said.

I thought only me notice that beach area was eroded badly compared to when I was a child. Now where are they getting the new sand from: further out to sea or at the expense of other beach areas?

It would be great if the public could actually access details of the project. We have no idea who the casino partner is. When are they going to knock down the eyesore that is called the Wyndham?
