Pinder withdrew allegation - I did not spit at his father

EDITOR, The Tribune.

IN THE edition of The Tribune dated Thursday, the 7th June, you carry a story under the heading, "Ryan Pinder: Lightbourne spat on my father".

In the first instance, I would have thought that your news reporter, who is credited with writing the story, would by now appreciate that there is no "e" at the end of my surname, and I would hope that if, in future, my name is mentioned, it is spelt correctly.

The more disturbing aspect of this article, however, is the nature of your heading bearing in mind that Mr Pinder did, in fact, withdraw his allegation and in those circumstances, your heading is completely misleading as it leaves an impression that I did, in fact, spit on Mr Pinder's father.

Nothing could be further from the truth, and it is unfortunate that Ryan Pinder should see his way clear to speaking a bare-faced lie.

Although you do state in the last sentence of the article that Mr Pinder withdrew his allegation, in all likelihood many persons reading the article will not read to the end and will be left with the impression, in reliance on your heading, that I did, in fact, spit in his face.

I would therefore request that you print an appropriate apology in order to clarify your misleading headline.

RICHARD LIGHTBOURN, MP

I ain think too much believed that in the first place, nor cared because it has nothing to do with today's issues. I believe you Mr. Lightbourn. Now back to work.

I wonder if Ryan Pinder would find it ok for me to spit on him, the same way he felt it was ok to support one of his supporters in slapping the then Deputy Minister. Maybe I should wait until me next head cold and then come looking for Mr. Pinder.
