Fire detectors would be the best protection

THE article mentions "preserving historic sites for the benefit of future generations".

Such preservation might be more likely if the restoration of the Pompey Museum were to involve installation of one or two smoke/fire detectors and possibly even a fire suppression system.

Perhaps the devices might also be considered for a few other downtown historic sites, such as the Library -- assuming our budget would permit such extravagance.
