Wins for Sharks and Truckers

FOLLOWING a weekend of cancelled game's due to heavy wind and rain, the New Providence Softball Association (NPSA) continued its schedule at Blue Hills Sporting Complex on Tuesday night.

A pair of powerhouses in both divisions (men and women) won decisively. The Bommer G Truckers shut out the Miller Rams 10-0, while the Proper Care Pool Lady Sharks took an 11-2 win over the Brackettes.

Euguene Pratt was the winning pitcher for the Truckers after giving up a single hit which came in the fifth inning.

The Truckers scored five runs in the top half of the first inning and, after a scoreless second, added another five runs in the third.

Bommer G's high powered offense scored their 10 runs off just five hits.

Darren Mortimer went 2-2 with a run scored, Van Johnson went 1-3 with two runs and Marvin Wood went 1-3 with one run and two RBI.

Marco Lightbourne collected the Rams' lone hit, while Garth Strachan was tagged with the loss.

In the women's game, Alex Gabriel got the win after pitching a four hitter.

The Sharks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and scored in each frame before the game was called in the fifth. They added two runs in the second, five in the third and three runs in the fourth.

Kendyana Ingraham and Vernetta Nairn each went 2-3 with two runs and one RBI while Raquel Cooper went 2-3 with one RBI.

For the Brackettes, Shavette Taylor went 1-3 with one run and one RBI and Ernestine Stubbs was tagged with the loss.
