Lady Hitmen have no mercy on Assassins

THE New Providence Softball Association (NPSA) continued its regular season in the Banker’s Field, Baillou Hills Sporting Complex, with another double header Wednesday night.

In the women’s opener, the newly formed Lady Hitmen didn’t have any mercy on the ASAP Assassins as they pulled off a 33-2 rout in four innings by the mercy rule.

Ashanti Darville went the distance, tossing a three hitter for the win. Rhondi Smith was tagged with the loss.

Thelia Cooper, who left the defending champions Proper Care Pool Lady Sharks during the offseason, had a perfect 5-for-5 night with three home runs, driving in six runs and scoring five times to lead the offensive attack.

Shaquell Bain was 4-for-5 with four runs, Dorissa Roberts 3-for-4 with three runs, Randell Cooper 3-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI and three runs scored, Samantha Bastian 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs and Judy Taylor 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run. Felice Knowles was 1-for-2 and Yasmine Knowles 1-for-1 with a run apiece.

In the men’s feature contest, the Buccaneers knocked off the Dorin Hitmen 7-5.

Cardinal Gilbert got the win over Leonard LeFrance. He also helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a run scored, Eric Johnson was 2-for-4 with a run and Daniel Demeritte was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Jamiko Sands was 2-for-3 with a homer and a RBI, Geron Sands was 1-for-2 with a homer and three RBI and Lavaughn Ferguson was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The NPSA is scheduled to hold another double header at the park on Saturday night.

In the women’s opener at 7pm, the Bommer G Operators are slated to face the YII Shipping Wildcats.

And in the men’s feature at 8:30pm, the Blue Chips Buccaneers are set to face the Bommer G Truckers.

THE New Providence Oldtimers Softball Association is slated to begin play this weekend at the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park, Southern Recreation Grounds. Here’s a look at the schedule:

2pm - Proper Care vs KC Construction

The NPOTSA is made up of the following teams in the two divisions:

Bursell Bradshaw Division - Crusaders, AGC Nailers, Cabinet World, Dozer, Bahamas Welding & Fire, Stubbs Equipment and Strong Back Stout.

George Ferguson Division - Truckers, Da Boyz, Home Boys, Proper Care, BTC Vibes, Q Club Divers, KC Construction and Unique D Giants.

CYCLING

ROAD RACE

THE New Providence Cycling Association is all set to begin a series of activities this month with a 35-mile road race on Sunday.

The event is scheduled to begin at 8am on Blake Road and travel to the western end of the island. Categories will include the open men and women, open masters for those 40 years and older, novice, 17-and-under and the juniors for those under 17 years old.

SYMONETTE

THE sailing community is mourning the loss of one of its boat owners and skippers, the late Bishop Elkin Symonette, pastor of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.

Symonette was the owner of the Three Sisters C Class sailing sloop that was dedicated to his three daughters.

The Three Sisters was not a big time winner. Symonette’s funeral is slated for 1:30pm Sunday at the church. He will be interned in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The Tribune Sports Department also offers its condolences.
