A CULTURE of vote buying has made campaigning difficult in Cat Island, according to one candidate.

Free National Movement hopeful Michael Pintard claimed he witnessed 'out and out buying of votes' in Cat Island, as well as irregularities concerning ballot slips.

He also claimed fabricated documents, disparaging in nature, had been circulated among voters on the island.

Shawn Francis, Democratic National Alliance (DNA) candidate claimed FNM and Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) supporters had been jeering at him in Rum Cay, but otherwise 'things are quiet'.

Mr Francis said, if he had a bit more money, much more could have been done to have a greater impact on the people.

He said, at this point the mindset was 'what you can do for me?'.

Preston Cunningham, administrator in Cat Island, said he was not aware of any 'vote buying' in Cat Island.

He said people were in little groups wearing party shirts, and everything appeared to be going okay.

Brave Davis, PLP candidate was not available for comment.

His assistant said he was in Cat Island and everything was going well for the party.
