BEHIND the walls of Her Majesty's Prison, a group of women, all mothers, work to spread the gospel to inmates.
The group of volunteers with Prison Fellowship Bahamas dedicate themselves in a number of programs and activities to minister the gospel to prisoners, victims and their families, and to advance the Biblical standard of justice.
This Sunday, Prison Fellowship Bahamas will honour 27 mothers for the fifth annual time on Mother's Day.
According to the programme's website, Prison Fellowship Bahamas has provided spiritual help and healing for inmates and ex-prisoners for twenty five years. Their programs and activities are made possible by a total of 75 volunteers.
Dr Olga Clarke, executive director said the mission of the fellowship is to exhort and declare Christianity into the prison system of the Bahamas.
The organisation also works towards presenting God in the criminal justice system and rehabilitating offenders. They help with the integration of ex-offenders into main stream society, so they can be constructive citizens contributing positively to national progress.
One of the organisation's programmes, "Angel Tree Project" is known as a gift for children, both victims of crime and incarnated inmates. During the Christmas season, volunteers offer words of encouragement to the children, and donate back to school supplies.
The Sycamore Tree Outreach Program offers sessions where victims and offenders interface and talk about crime to bring closure and healing to victims and families. This is also a time for inmates to reflect on acts perpetrated.
Dr Clarke said their Half-Way House Initiative is a place where ex-offenders are temporarily housed, counseled, equipped and mentored before they go out on their own to integrate into mainstream society.
The Mother's Day event will be held at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort on Sunday at 1:30pm.
