Man accused of businessman's murder

FREEPORT - THE murder trial of Hulio Cecil Smith opened in the Supreme Court into the shooting death of a Grand Bahama businessman some four years ago.

Smith, 32, represented by attorney Paul Wallace-Whitfield, was accused yesterday of the murder of Auto Supplies dealer Gifford Martin Jr.

Senior Justice Hartman Longley is presiding. Erica Kemp of the Attorney General's Office is the Crown prosecutor.

It is alleged that on November 16, 2007, Smith shot and killed Martin while at his place of business at Xtreme Auto Supplies in Yellow Pine Street.

Martin, 32, died of a fatal gunshot to the head.

The prosecution called several witnesses, including police officers and the victim's relative, to the give evidence in the case.

The case was adjourned to Friday, May 18.
