Men quizzed over armed robberies

POLICE want to question two men in connection with separate armed robberies.

The incidents occurred within minutes of each other on Wednesday afternoon.

The first took place at a business on Boyd Road just before 4pm, according to investigators.

Police said a man armed with a handgun and wearing dark jeans and a red hooded jacket entered the business and demanded cash.

The culprit then made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Eyewitnesses reported that the man escaped on foot heading north along Providence Avenue.

The second robbery happened shortly after 4pm at a business on the corner of East and Young Streets.

A man wearing a dark hooded jacket and armed with a handgun entered the establishment and demanded cash. He then escaped heading in an unknown direction with an undisclosed sum of money.

In other crime news, police said a 38-year-old man was shot in the early morning hours yesterday, and is listed in stable condition in hospital.

Shortly before 2am, the victim was driving his car through Burial Ground Corner when he was approached and shot by an unknown man.

The victim drove himself to the hospital.
