THE SCRIPTURE that entails “Love is patient, love is kind,” is looked at as a powerful bible verse by many Christians, due to the inspiring words that are outlined in it.

When it comes to the subject matter of love, most Christians say the bible is the best book to educate people on it, and this is where 1 Corinthians 13:4 stands out.

The scripture states: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

Speaking with Tribune Religion one avid bible reader said: “A lot of people say there is no definite meaning to the word love, but I say if there isn’t one, this particular one isn’t far from the truth. Look at someone trying to fall in love, and everything around them is telling them that it is not worth it.”

“A girl that sees her mom getting hit by her father is going to think that is somehow love, why? Because her mom may tell her that. When at the end of the day, the bible preaches about these things. Read it carefully: love does not hurt, it is not easily angered. It should not be these cruel things that are being seen on TV, and broken relationships around you.”

Adding her views, Kim Cooper, a Catholic said: “ Love should be selfless. Arrogance and pride have no place in love, only humility and selflessness. Love is something you give without expecting a reward for it.”

For Yvonne Smith, a Methodist follower, the scripture is important because she believes it talks about “all kinds of love.” She said it talks about romantic love that you would have for your partner, as well as a family’s love, a person would have for their mother, father or siblings.

“It also talks about the love you would have for your friends and humanity in general. I guess the code of the part where it says to be patient and kind, those are all traits that a healthy and spiritual person would have anyway. It really speaks to the importance of pure love for everyone,” said Yvonne.

Celine Bethel, said this part of the bible speaks about what true love really is and it tells a person how they should treat other people.

“You should only want the best for them. Love is patient means you should accept people, kind means you should treat people how you would want to be treated. If you truly love someone you would be happy for them and not envy,” said Celine.

Agreeing with Celine, Crystal Sands noted: “The scripture is probably one of the most important scriptures in the bible because it tells Christians exactly how they should love and also shows people what love looks like. If a Christian’s action do not line up with the love that this scriptures describes, then they are clearly not loving the way God wants them to. This is the way that God loves so Christian should do their best to emulate it.”
