AS teams make a late playoff push for the post season in the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) softball league, several teams came in with key wins at the Baillou Hills Complex yesterday.

In junior boys’ play, the SC McPherson Sharks came from behind to score a 17-6 win over the HO Nash Lions.

Douvanklin Rolle was the hero on the mound and at the plate for the Sharks who improved to 3-2 in the playoff hunt. Rolle went 3-3 on the day with three in the park home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored.

In centerfield, he made several plays with his glove, taking away sure runs from the Lions to hold runners at bay and help fight off a comeback from the Lions.

In the opening inning, HO Nash got out to a quick 5-0 start as Sharks’ pitcher Malik Storr struggled to gain control. The Sharks answered in the bottom half and outscored the Lions 17-1 the rest of the game.

After a pair of walks, Rolle hit the first of his three in the park home runs and led the Sharks to a 6-5 lead at the end of the first inning.

Storr was able to retire three of four hitters he faced in the second inning.

In the bottom of the second, Rolle hit a solo shot to start the inning and began a 9-run rally in the frame.

The Lions were plagued by fielding errors for much of the game, leading to a route which led to early stoppage.

“He was walking a lot of our batters but I knew if I had a chance to hit one I could connect and make a big play and that’s what happened,” Rolle said. “I just want us to make the playoffs and then the goal is the championship.”

In other junior boys’ game, pennant leaders AF Adderley Tigers defeated the TA Thompson Scorpions 18-6, while the CH Reeves Raptors won over the DW Davis Pitbulls.
