Authorities hold 32 illegal immigrants in Eleuthera

IMMIGRATION and Defence Force officers apprehended 32 suspected illegal immigrants in and around Palmetto Point, Eleuthera yesterday.

The team, led by Chief Immigration Officer Peter Joseph and Petty Officer Woods, detained 24 men, eight women and three children.

They are suspected of having illegally landed or overstayed they allotted time in the Bahamas.

The officers are due to escort the detainees to New Providence today.

The Department of Immigration said in a statement that it is “committed to the enforcement of the immigration laws of the Bahamas and urges the public to adhere to these laws”.
