Baptist Sports Council Softball Classic: Golden Gates undefeated

GOLDEN Gates pulled off a pair of victories over Macedonia Baptist to remain undefeated in the Baptist Sports Council’s 2012 Softball Classic at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday.

In the co-ed game, Golden Gates doubled up Macedonia 18-8, while the men secured a 4-0 whitewashing.

In a pair of co-ed games also played, Salem Union knocked off Ebenezer 11-4 and St Paul’s avenged their season opening loss to Golden Gates by routing St John’s 21-1.

Here’s a summary of the games played:

Golden Gates 18,

Macedonia 8

Richard Bain Jr had a perfect 4-for-4 day, scoring a pair of runs, Anthon Rolle was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, Garfield Bethel was 3-for-3 with a homer, scoring three times and Thela Johnson had just one hit with two walks, scoring three times in their co-ed victory.

Lavern Eve was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Ray Johnson went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored in a losing effort.

Ramon Johnson got the win on the mound and Ray Johnson was tagged with the loss.

Golden Gates 4,

Macedonia 0

Kayle Carey (with a two-run homer), Anthon Rolle, Garfield Bethel and Ramon Johnson were all 1-for-2 with a run scored in helping to secure the men’s victory.

Courtney Smith, D’Kyle Rolle and Zhivargo Archer all had a single for Macedonia, but they were left stranded on base.

Ramon Johnson was again the winning pitcher and Michael Ingraham was the loser.

Salem 11, Ebenezer 4

Linda Stubbs and Debra Bastian were both 3-for-3, scoring one and two runs respectively, Ella Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Shera Woodside was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to pace the co-ed victory for Salem.

Debra Bastian was the winning pitcher and Ellis Adderley suffered the loss.

Adderley, Brandon Charlton and Kenneth Curry all got a hit and scored a run, while Celesia Bastian walked and scored the other run for Ebenezer.

St Paul’s 21, St John’s 1

Addie Finley went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and two one-run triples, scoring three times, Shaunde Bethel was 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, Brad Wood Jr was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored Shara Bain was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored and Melissa Hall was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored in their co-ed win.

Harold ‘Banker’ Fitzgerald was the winning pitcher and Torri Rolle was the loser. Tavari Drosett walked and scored St John’s lone run on an error.

The BSC is slated to continue its regular season on Saturday with another series of games.
