Lady Operators rout the Saints 56-15

AFTER opening the season with a win over the defending New Providence Women’s Basketball Association (NPWBA) champions, the Bommer G Lady Operators continue to roll on the young season.

Malesha Peterson led three Operators in double figures with a game high 18 points in the 56-15 win over the Saints at the DW Davis Gym Tuesday night. Peterson also added six rebounds and five steals.

Kaylisa Laing finished with 15 points and Ashley Moss posted a double double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Danisha Williams led a struggling Saints offense with just five points.

The Operators led wire to wire, by as much as 42 and at one point went on a 19-0 run to pull ahead for good.

Leading 7-4 after the first five minutes, the Operators closed the first quarter on a 13-0 run to lead 21-4 after the first.

They limited the Saints again to just four points in the second quarter and took a 30-8 lead at the half.

Bommer G outscored the Saints 17-2 in the third and gave up just three field goals in the second half.

A seven rebound edge on the boards, nine more steals, six more blocks led a defensive effort that held the Saints to just 16 per cent shooting from the field.

They outscored the Saints 20-6 in the paint and shot 44 per cent from the field.

In the second game of the evening, perennial contenders Super Value Cybots Queens built an early lead and held on for a 44-38 win over the COB Caribs.

Jahliyah Colebrooke led the Queens with a game high 15 points and seven rebounds.

Cristin Seymour added nine points and seven rebounds while Robin Gibson added seven points.

Gabrielle McKinney led the Caribs with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists while Shadell Williams finished with 10 points.

The Caribs were never able to overcome the slow 10-0 start and trailed 19-6 at the end of the first quarter.

They maintained a 28-15 lead at the half and 38-30 headed into the final quarter.

The Caribs outscored the Queens 10-6 in points off turnovers, 12-6 in points in the paint, but they got just three points off the bench and shot just 26 per cent from the field to the Queens’ 33 per cent.
