First Speed Week event arrives

KARTING stars rev into action this weekend as Bahamas Speed Week Revival 2012 gets into top gear.

On Sunday youngsters from Britain’s Formula Kart Stars are at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium for the ‘Bahamas Transatlantic Challenge’ from noon to 3pm. Entry is free.

Formula Kart Stars is a training ground for would-be Formula 1 drivers, with youngsters ranging from eight to 15-years-old.

Eight drivers from the 2012 MSA British Cadet Championship and ten Senior Rotax drivers plus their mechanics are due to take part.

The youngsters are also due to make an appearance at Speed Week’s Classic Automobile Car Show at Arawak Cay on Saturday.

Next Wednesday, Speed Week has its official opening ceremony followed by laps of the Arawak Cay circuit.

On Thursday, there is a planned ‘007 Island Tour’ taking in locations used in the James Bond movies.

On Friday the Bay Street Roadshow is scheduled while on Saturday, December 1, cars will experience two timed runs up to Fort Charlotte.

Sunday, December 2, has a full day of timed sprint around a challenging 1.5 mile circuit.
