Man, 22, held over firearm find

A 22-year-old man is in police custody after officers discovered an unlicensed firearm and a quantity of ammunition.

Police say around 10.20pm Wednesday, officers from the Central Division were on mobile patrol in the Dumping Ground Corner area when they saw a man acting suspiciously.

The officers reported that he ran when he spotted them.

After a short chase the detained the man for questioning. Following the chase, a search turned up a black Smith and Wesson Glock .40 pistol with 12 live rounds of ammunition.

Police sources say the man was also wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet and is on bail in relation to an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

He is currently helping police with their investigation.
