A 32-year-old man became the country’s latest traffic fatality when the car he was driving flipped over and landed on top of him.

The accident occurred around 12:30 Sunday morning in Abaco.

According to police reports, an officer was on routine patrol when he saw a two-door green Honda Accord overturned in the bush on the northern side of Forest Drive, about three feet from the road.

When he approached the vehicle, he saw three people on the ground with a man trapped under the car.

Emergency Services personnel arrived on the scene a short time later and pronounced the man dead.

The three passengers were taken by ambulance to the Marsh Harbour Clinic where their injuries are listed as non life threatening.

The victim, who was also the driver of the car, was identified as Techelet Joseph of the Mud, Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

Superintendent Noel Curry, who heads the Abaco district said police believe speed was a factor in this accident. He is asking members of the public to exercise caution while using the streets and to adhere to the rules.

This latest accident is the sixth traffic fatality in Abaco for the year and the second within a week.

Three people died last Saturday on the SC Bootle Highway In North Abaco.

Police say the woman driver of a black 1999 Honda Civic was travelling north on the highway when she collided with a silver 2002 Cadillac Deville travelling south.

The impact of the crash caused the Honda Civic to flip over several times before landing on its side.

The woman has been identified as 22-year-old Caneska Rolle of Coopers Town, North Abaco. She died at the scene.

Her front seat passenger, 22-year-old Shenique McIntosh, also of Coopers Town, was taken by ambulance to the Coopers Town clinic, but died of her injuries around 1:33am Sunday.

A third passenger, Stephon Clarke, 33, of Cedar Harbour, North Abaco, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Nassau for medical treatment.

However, he died around 5am Sunday on the way to the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle reportedly received minor injuries and was treated at the scene and discharged.

His passenger, 17-year-old Shavado Smith, of Fire Road, North Abaco, reportedly suffered a broken left leg and right arm.

He was also airlifted to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he is listed in serious, but stable condition.

Active investigations continue.

Supt Curry said whether speed or any other factor played a part in that crash will be revealed today.
