CONTESTANTS of the popular television show RuPaul’s Drag Race could soon be seen strolling down Bay Street and enjoying the new Straw Market when the Carnival Glory docks in Nassau.

The celebrity drag queens will visit Nassau next week as one of their stops on a cruise that is being billed as the “largest gathering of drag stars ever.”

The eight-day cruise, entitled “2012 Caribbean Adventure – Revenge of the Wench cruise” will feature stand-outs Latrice Royale and Shangela who have become fan favourites on the hit Logo TV show.

The show’s stars, as well as big-name queens from the American drag community, will be coming to Nassau on board the Carnival Glory.

Nassau and Paradise Island are being sold to the cruise passengers as a place “blessed by balmy breezes and jumping to a bouncy calypso beat” which promises “sizzling fun in the sun.”

The cruise will feature special question and answer panel discussions, cocktail parties, comedy shows and special drag performances. Nassau will be the first port of call before the ship continues on to St Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk.

The cruise was put together by Al and Chuck.travel – a travel agency that provides travel itineraries, tour packages to Pride events and tips for gay travellers all over the world.

Following the Drag Stars at Sea Cruise, Al and Chuck are also offering a three-day New Year’s cruise that will call at Freeport.

Please Bahamians, and namely the Christian Council, please do not embarrass our country with homophobic protests when the ship docks.

I agree with you Ironvelvet. They will be here for two days the most. Just let them come in spend money, enjoy themselves and leave. We need that type of press right now.
