Civil rights leader honoured with bust

PRIME Minister Perry Christie travelled to Bimini on Saturday to officially unveil a bust of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

Mr Christie said the bust memorialises the civil rights leader’s visits to the Bimini in 1964 and 1968.

He said: “Those peaceful moments he spent here in the breathtaking mangroves, inspired Dr King to write part of the speeches he delivered while accepting the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and the one he delivered to the Sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee before his assassination in 1968, only days after his visit to Bimini.”
