UPDATE: Reports have just come in to the Tribune that the officer who was shot has regained consciousness.

POLICE have launched an island-wide manhunt for the gunman responsible for critically shooting a police officer late Saturday night.
According to police reports, the officer was visiting a relative in the Woods Alley Area off Wulff Road around 10.35pm when he was approached by a masked gunman.
The suspect shot the officer repeatedly before fleeing the area on foot.
The victim was taken to hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Police have not released the name of the officer but the Tribune understands he is Corporal Athlery attached to the Wulff Road police station.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
Police are also investigating another shooting incident that has left an 18-year-old girl in hospital.
Police say the girl was in the area of Wilson Track and Cordeaux Avenue around 1.27am on Sunday when she heard gunshots and began to run.
When she stopped running she felt a sharp pain and realised she had been shot in the upper left back.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance where her condition is unknown. Investigations continue.
In another case, a 19-year-old man is in police custody after he was found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to police reports, officers from the Selective Enforcer Team were on routine patrol around 5.45pm on Saturday through Fox Hill when they observed a man acting suspiciously.
He ran when he saw police and an object dropped from his waist. After a short chase, police arrested a suspect and discovered a handgun along with ammunition.
A few hours later, around 7.30pm, officers were on mobile patrol on Ida Street when they observed a man sitting in a Honda Accord acting suspiciously.
Police say the man ran from the car and fled on foot when he saw the officers. They chased after him but couldn’t catch him.
However, police recovered a handgun that dropped from the suspect’s waist.

I hope that the police catch him and shoot him several times also. We need to get serious about helping and taking care of our police so that they can help and take care of us. At any one time, we may have an individual living in a $500,000.00 home, driving a $50,000 car and dressed up in $5,000 worth of clothing and jewelry, and we expect for a police man making $25,000 a year to put his life and safety on the line to protect him . How stupid and selfish is that.
