Teen questioned over shooting death

Police are questioning a 19-year-old man of Wilson Track in connection with a shooting incident that left one man dead and another fighting for his life in hospital.

The incident occurred around 10.45pm Tuesday night.

Police said they received an anonymous call that two men were shot in the area of Miami Street off Cordeaux Avenue.

When they arrived at the scene they found a man lying in the street, just north of E P Roberts Primary School, with gunshot wounds in his lower leg and back.

Police also discovered a second man lying on the ground in the area of Lincoln Park with gunshot wounds to his chest and right shoulder.

Both men were taken to hospital by ambulance, but one man died shortly after arrival.

Police have not officially identified the victim but sources say he is 31-year-old Damien Xavier McKinney also known as “Sharky”.

Witnesses say both victims were on a motorcycle on Miami Street when an unknown person opened fire on them from a vehicle.

The second man is listed in critical condition.

Officers of the South Central Police Station arrested the teenager around 11.30am on Wednesday at Mantol Street, Montel Hieghts.

Active investigations are continuing.

Police are also asking the public’s assistance in locating the person or persons responsible for the shooting death of Abayami Joshua Sergeant.

The 23-year-old father of one was with a group of friends on Christie Park around 11:30pm last Wednesday when they were approached by three men one of whom was armed with a handgun.

Sergeant tried to run, but was shot in the upper right side of his chest.

He died at the scene.

Police sources say he was recently released from prison.
