THE Nassau City Opera Company has announced that it will host a performance of Giuseppi Verdi’s Requiem to mark Remembrance Day 2012.

The performance was announced during a courtesy call on Governor General Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes, who are patrons of the National Remembrance Day Concert.

The National Remembrance Day Concert will be staged in collaboration with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, on Friday November 9 at 8pm at Christ Church Cathedral.

According to the NCOC, the concert will he held in homage to the men and women of the Bahamas who have “unselfishly given of themselves and paid the greatest sacrifice with their lives, thus enabling us to enjoy freedom from fear and tyranny”.

Tickets are $30 and are on sale at the Box Office of the Dundas Civic Centre, Mackey Street, with part proceeds going to the Veterans Medical fund of the Royal British Legion (Bahamas Branch).

The performance will mark the first time Verdi’s 138 year old work is being performed in the musical history of the Bahamas, and will be executed with the Nassau City Opera Singers, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Choir and the St Barnabas Church Choir.

The musical accompaniment is made up of woodwind, brass and percussion musicians of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, as well as seven United States based musicians, on violins, violas, cellos and organ.
