First win for Bicolen Oragons

THE winless Bicolen Oragons, with their pride on the line, barged into the win column for their first win in four games by beating the Extreme Terminators 87-75 during the FAB SportsFest 2012 Season 9 at Kendal Isaacs Gym.

AJ Stewart played heads-up basketball despite being in foul trouble in the first half with four personal fouls but still managed to finish the game on a double-double performance with 41 points mostly in the paint and 13 rebounds. He added four assists, two blocks and one steal.

The Terminators surged early 4-0 on Aris Pineda’s and Sonny Bautista’s uncontested shots. They took a 9-3 lead on three-point-plays by Spencer Lewis.

A 9-0 run by the Oragons, courtesy of a field goal each from Luvi Santelices, Jaypee Manansala, Stewart, and Francis Badar’s rainbow shot, put them ahead 12-9.

A counter attack on a 6-0 run by the Terminators, four coming from Lewis and a basket by Pineda, put them on top again 15-12, but the Oragons silenced them for nearly five minutes with a stingy defensive effort and a 14-0 run to take a double-digit lead, 26-15.

Down 11 points, 19-30, the Terminators executed a 12-2 run in nearly four minutes with the duo of Sonny Bautista’s four points and eight from Lewis to close the gap to 31-32.

It was an up and down battle before Pineda made a twisting lay-up with 1:04 remaining and the Terminators ended the first half in their favour, 41-39.

The Terminators missed the services of big men Randy de Guzman and Edwin Forlaje.

Lewis posted a double-double in a losing effort with 37 points and 10 rebounds.

Pineda added 16 points and six rebounds before fouling out and Bautista also fouled out with 12 points and five rebounds.

The Terminators, left with only four players at the 7:08 mark in the game, were overmatched down the stretch en route to the loss.
