A CONFERENCE sought to unite Rastas in the Bahamas under the theme “One God, One Asim, One Destiny”.

Organised by the HIM Theocracy Reign Order of the Rastafari Movement Intermansion, participating Rastafari mansions included the Ethiopia Africa Black International Congress, True Church of Divine Salvation, also known as the Bobo Shanti, the House of David, Nyabinghi and King of Kings Missionary Movement.

Elders discussed issues affecting the community including solidarity and collective security in the Rastafari community; Rastafari land agreements and business development plans; human rights issues such as police brutality, locks cutting, prison conditions and sentencing; the establishment of a cooperative amongst Rastafari mansions; Rastafari ethics, morals and established protocols.

Protocols include the hungry fed, the naked clothed, the sick nourished and the infants cared for. Rastafari women also discussed the way forward for black woman.

One of the organisers, Shemarco Adderley, pointed to the words of Emperor Haile Selassie I as inspiration for the week-long conference.

“In the history of the human race, those periods which later appeared as great have been the periods when the men and women belonging to them, had transcended the differences that divided them and had recognised in their membership in the human race a common bond,” said the Emperor of Ethiopia, Africa.
