FREEPORT – GRAND Bahama Port Authority Limited (GBPA) has donated 25 smoke detectors to help the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Fire Services Division provide devices to families in need.

The division bought smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and other safety devices and donated them to less fortunate persons in Grand Bahama.

Fire officials have expressed concern at an increase of fires on the island.

GBPA Director of Community Relations, Geneva Rutherford said: “Of late, there have been fires in numerous communities throughout the island, so this is a timely act that will hopefully help in combating future incidences.

“GBPA is pleased to make this worthwhile donation. It is a tremendously commendable effort and we thank you for the great work you do throughout the island to assist in saving lives,” she said.

Ginger Moxey, GBPA Vice President, said: “GBPA has always been a very active corporate citizen. Each year, we donate significantly to support initiatives in the areas of education, sports, culture, tourism, industry, etc. More importantly, we also support events that have the potential to boost the island’s economy.”
