TALL Pines MP and CEO of Save Mart, Leslie Miller, has offered a $5,000 reward to anyone who can help the police find the criminals who stole nearly $100,000 worth of equipment from his new business complex in Harold Road.

Taking The Tribune on a guided tour of the path of destruction that the criminals left, Mr Miller said the thieves stole ten industrial air conditioning units and all the copper in the building’s refrigeration system.

“This kind of foolishness has to stop. I urge the government to stop any of these scrap metal dealers shipping one ounce of copper out of this country. I don’t see why this export is allowed to take place in the first place,” he said.

The thieves, according to Mr Miller, targeted the ‘rack room’ of his new business, Save Mart, which was scheduled to open on November 15 in the old Robin Hood complex in Harold Road.

“These thieves are costing a tremendous burden to businesses in this country. This is killing us. Today that is $100,000 to us that was not put into the budget. It is not fair. I am asking the government to put a stop to it. In my constituency people are seeing this all the time. People stealing the copper from their air conditioning units. This must stop. This cash reward I hope will help to bring these people to justice. We have to, as a society, take a hard stance against this. Companies in this economy can not take on this burden. Thieves don’t have the slightest value of these things that they are selling for peanuts,” he said.
