Hunt for knife-wielding man who robbed woman

POLICE are hunting a knife-wielding man who robbed a woman of her cellphone and cash.

The victim was in the area of St Matthew’s Cemetery on East Street and Church Street shortly after 5pm on Monday when she was approached by a man known to her.

The man was reportedly armed with a knife and robbed the woman of her phone and an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the area on foot in an unknown direction.

During the attack, the victim reportedly received injuries to the neck and body and was taken to hospital via private vehicle where she was treated and discharged.

Police also saw more than 70 drivers ticketed for various offences, with 60 ticketed $100 each for speeding along West Bay Street.

On Monday, between 10am and 12pm, police officers conducted Operation Safe Streets on the road which resulted in 73 drivers being cited for traffic infractions.

Two individuals were cited for $250 for driving an unlicensed vehicle, six were cited for driving without a front licence plate attached in the amount of $100, five were issued $100 citations for driving without a seatbelt, and 60 were fined $100 for speeding.
