Scotiabank workers evacuated their Rawson Square office.

According to Fire Chief Walter Evans, the entire building was evacuated and firefighters were forced to cut out a portion of the roof in order to battle the flame.

Firefighters received the call shortly after 8am and responded immediately with two units, he said.

They went to the roof of the five-storey structure and discovered the fire was confined to the inside of an rooftop air conditioning vent.

“As a result of that, we had to cut a portion of the roof to extinguish the fire that was burning inside,” Mr Evans said.

“We had to cut a hole... in order to gain access to where it was burning on the inside - in the (wood) rafters.”

He described the fire as small and slow burning and said there had been no further damage.

The area was given the all clear after 10am.

Firefighters are still unsure of what caused the fire and investigations continue.
