NEARLY 70 per cent of the Grand Bahama Power Company’s customers have had their electricity restored as of 11:30pm Saturday, the company announced yesterday.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the company said crews are working diligently on restoring power to its remaining customers on the island.

Philcher Grant-Farquharson, communications officer, said they had experienced some challenges with salt water damage to their equipment. She also noted that there were issues of flooding in key areas as well as downed power lines and poles on the transmission line.

“As the flooding has begun to subside in some areas we will continue to concentrate our efforts on restoring power to critical services and customers that we were unable to address due to flooding. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we work diligently to restore power,” Mrs Farquharson said.

Mrs Farquharson stressed that Grand Bahama Power Company urges customers to exercise extreme caution and to stay away from downed power lines.

Customers who may be experiencing isolated outages are asked to contact the 24-hour customer call centre at 352-8411.
