Dion Foulkes to run for FNM chairmanship

FORMER FNM chairman Dion Foulkes announced yesterday that he will once again seek the chairmanship of the party when the Council
meets to elect its new chairman next month.

The Tribune understands that at this point there will only be two contenders to Mr Foulkes, in the persons of former Minister of State for the Environment Phenton Neymour and former Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Housing Brensil Rolle.

It is reported that the party’s current acting chairman, Darron Cash and his deputy acting chairman Dr Duane Sands will not offer themselves for the posts again.

Brensil Rolle was the party’s campaign coordinator having taken over from the party’s former chairman, Charles Maynard, who suffered a heart attack and died on the campaign trail in North Abaco during the recent by-election.

Mr Foulkes, who spent a number of years in public service under the FNM said he has decided that his seniority and former experience as chairman makes him a viable candidate for chairman.

“After careful deliberation and wide consultation I announce today that I intend to run for the office of National Chairman of the Free National Movement. I have made this decision primarily because of the many members of the FNM and party supporters who have asked me to offer at this time and because of my commitment to my party.

“Having served in several senior positions in the FNM, I feel that I can be of continued service to my party at this time,” he said.

Before his party lost the government in the last general election, Mr Foulkes served as the Minister of Labour in the Ingraham Administration.

Mr Cash has served in his post as acting chairman since September of this year.
