ACTING FNM Chairman Darron Cash gave his backing to party leader Dr Hubert Minnis last night saying he has his “full support and confidence.”

In a statement, Mr Cash responded to a media report on Monday that claimed he differed with Dr Minnis on how to lead the party.

“I have noted with interest and amusement reports in the media about the pending elections for chairman of the Free National Movement. Two important points need to be emphasised. Firstly, internal party communications are nobody’s business but ours, so no one should expect a confirmation or denial of any alleged communication. As national chairman I intend to ensure that FNM’s internal business remains internal FNM business.

“Secondly, in this business there are several ways to expose and plug a leak,” he said. “On that score I will have more to say at a later date.

“As acting chairman, my first duty is to discuss matters of my future and future plans for the party with officers of the party, executives and members of the Central Council to whom I am accountable. Any relevant comments with respect to whether or not I will or will not be a candidate will come following those discussions. It is the decent and mature way in which mature adults and established political parties should conduct their affairs,” he said.

Mr Cash, who is accompanying Dr Minnis and other party and parliamentary leaders as the FNM continues its tour of the islands affected by Hurricane Sandy, also hit out at “unscrupulous and power hungry persons.”

“It is abundantly clear that there are some unscrupulous and power hungry persons who by their own actions will continue to prove themselves unworthy of the trust and confidence reposed in them.

“As an organisation,” he said, “the FNM will always be wary of persons who believe that the only way for them to gain power and strength is to destroy others and weaken the party they wish to lead.

“As an FNM I will always put the affairs of this party ahead of narrow personal ambitions. In that regard, let there be no mistake, the Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis is the Party’s leader and he is my leader.”
