TODD M.J. BENEBY, a relationship manager with Scotia Private Client Group (SPCG), has been selected as ‘Mentor of the Year’ by the Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB).

The award will be presented at this year’s Financial Services Industry Excellence Awards Banquet, scheduled for November 9 at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort.

The Mentor of the Year is the newest category in the Excellence Awards, having been introduced in 2010. Nominees must work in financial services or a related profession, and must have contributed to the development of persons in the industry through personal guidance/advice, through either formal or informal mentoring.

BFSB’s chief executive, Aliya Allen, said: “These annual awards clearly demonstrate the significance BFSB and, indeed, the industry attach to our most valuable asset – our people.

“The Mentor of the Year category is particularly important, as it is these very individuals that have such an important role in keeping our industry professionals focused and motivated . This is critical to sustaining our industry.”

Colleagues nominating Mr Beneby said he has assisted many ‘Scotiabankers’ through his sound advice and practical solutions to regular concerns they may be experiencing - while at the same time displaying all the qualities consistent with a great role model.

Many of them continue to maintain a relationship with him today, after their mentor/mentee relationship may have ended.

One mentee submitting a supporting document for the nomination said: “During my first experience with Mr Beneby, he immediately made me feel welcome as if we had been long-time friends, while also displaying an impressive degree of professionalism.

“He always demonstrates integrity, compassion and reputable people skills, and opens the door to free and constructive dialogue.”

Others added: “He taught me to bring a concept to my work environment, which enabled me to better interact with people and brought impressive results. He also provided valuable tips to me on how to position myself and be ready for career opportunities. I certainly look at Todd Beneby as a leader among leaders.”

In his current position, Mr Beneby provides total relationship banking to both private banking and SPCG clients and prospects.

He is tasked with ensuring growth in the number, size and profitability of private banking relationships.

Mr Beneby previously served as senior manager, external sales and mortgage centre, as well as a credit officer at Scotiabank.

Prior to that, he was employed with Lloyds Bank International, first as a client accountant and later as a trust officer.

Mr. Beneby is a Certified Financial Planner (Chartered Institute of Bankers, Scotland), and holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management (St John’s University, Minnesota) and a Master of Business Administration (Louisiana Baptist University, Louisiana)
