BEC: 95% of Family Islands 'have power restored'

BEC said it had substantively completed repairs in New Providence and had restored supply to more than 95 per cent of customers in the Family Islands.

Yesterday the corporation concluded restoration efforts in New Providence, restoring supply to the final three communities whose supplies were interrupted by Hurricane Sandy.

It said last night its efforts were now concentrated on a small number of customers who have individual supply issues as a result of the storm.

As a result, it has announced the closure of its hurricane command centre in New Providence.

Customers with supply issues can use BEC’s emergency numbers 323-5561 or 302-1800.

In the Family Islands, restoration is complete in all islands with the exception of Abaco and Eleuthera.

In Abaco more than
85 per cent of customers have had their service restored.

In Eleuthera 90 per cent of customers are now on the corporation’s electrical grid.

BEC said it remained committed to full restoration in the Family
Islands by the end of the week.

A company statement thanked customers in New Providence and the Family Islands for their patience over the past 72 hours and thanked the ‘hard working men and women at BEC who worked tirelessly in an effort to restore services as quickly as possible.’
