Man attempts to hang himself in police custody

A MAN tried to hang himself while in custody at central police station, the Tribune has learned.

Around 11.45pm on Sunday, while doing routine checks, officers discovered the 33-year-old man hanging by his shirt which he had tied to the cell bars.

He was taken down and was found to be still alive and breathing.

He was taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The Tribune understands the victim was being held in reference to stealing.

Investigations continue.

Police are also requesting the public’s help in locating three men responsible for two separate armed robberies on Monday afternoon.

The first reportedly occurred around 4.30pm at a business establishment on Bernard Road.

Police say a slim man wearing a yellow shirt and brown trousers entered the establishment allegedly armed with a handgun and demanded cash.

The culprit reportedly robbed the business of an undisclosed amount of money and an employee of her BlackBerry phone before fleeing on foot into the Dannottage Estates area. The second robbery reportedly occurred at 9.31pm outside a business on Carmichael Road west of Bacardi Road.

A man was reportedly robbed of an undetermined amount of money along with an I-phone, and a Nokia cell phone by two masked men.
