Underachievers

EDITOR, The Tribune.

In the aftermath of the PLP’s self imposed “100 day challenge”, the Rt Hon Perry G Christie claims to be very pleased with their accomplishments. Meanwhile the leader of the opposition weighed in on the PLP’s commitment to the people of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas regarding the PLP’s promises as stated in the “14 Key Initiative” his view being that the efforts given by the government as it pertains to what they said they would do was a dismal failure, calling the promises made “meaningless”, which I feel they really are.  I have stated and stand behind this opinion that I outlined in a facebook blog that I posted entitled the “100 day challenge”– I find it amazing and even somewhat scary that the leader of the country would be “pleased” with such a dismal offering to the people of the Bahamas after all that was promised to them and after telling them what was being “withheld” from them by the FNM administration.

What is even worse is that they would rebut this criticism of this failure and go out onto a limb to defend said failure. To me this is tantamount to a parent explaining to grandparents why it is that “little Johnny” has a D average and attempting to show the “bright side” of the situation.  If “little Johnny” is an under achiever he must/should be trained to set his goals higher and with this said – how do we as a country move forward? Have our people set their goals higher and not settled when its very leaders seem quite content with being in failure or being very close to it? There is a school of thought that maybe in time “little Johnny” will grow out of his lazy, inept and incompetent ways and flourish and maybe this is the present administration’s approach to governance – the “wait and see” approach. The downside of this of course is that the likelihood of “little Johnny” growing out of his bad habits are highly unlikely – being lazy, incompetent and inept are easy and actually making an effort to move up and onward takes effort and actual work. If you were to see your leaders take the easy way out then what really is your motivation to do any better? The 14 key initiatives outlined for the first 100 days were describes as a “sham” and “meaningless promises.” These were put out by an under achieving Prime Minister and his party with one objective in mind and this was to win an election, now we see that they have no clear direction of governance in which to take the country.

An interesting note would be that a PLP supporter posted in a thread this weekend that in their view the PLP has done a great job because if you were to read the wording of the initiatives they really did not promise anything. I guess by this standard the PLP is doing a great job. I notice that this person is close to bragging about the fact of how the PLP managed to mislead the people of the Bahamas with slight of hand and “fluff.”
