Baptist Sports Council's 2013 Basketball Classic heating up

THE action is starting to heat up in the Baptist Sports Council’s 2013 Basketball Classic with only two teams in each of the three divisions still undefeated.

In the 15-and-under division, Latter-Day routed defending champions Macedonia 41-15 to take the top position at 3-0, while Faith United A team blasted their B team 67-7 to push their record to 2-0.

One of the two teams will remain undefeated after the two clash 10am Saturday as the action picks up at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

In the 19-and-under division, St John’s nipped Latter-Day 37-36 to surge a top of the standings at 4-0. They are joined in a two-way tie with Macedonia A team, who blasted Faith United 60-44. St John’s and Macedonia are all set to square off at noon in a showdown between the two undefeated teams.

And in the men’s division, Men of Vision picked up their third straight win with a 45-34 decision over BIBA to take the early lead.

Latter-Day improved to 2-0 as they clobbered BIBA 76-46.

Cruz Simon scored a game high 17 points and Alexander Rolle had 11 in their men’s win. Tino Thurston had 13 in a losing effort.

Latter-Day 78, BIBA 46

Lloyd Bailey scored 17, including five three-pointers and Christoff Stuart had 13 in their men’s win. Jamal Bain had 14 in the loss.

St John’s 41, Golden Gates 40

Roosevelt Whylly had a game high 21 points, including the game winning three-pointer and Deangelo Wallace added eight in their men’s win. Zan-Vaughn Beckford had nine in the loss.

Macedonia No.1 29,

Golden Gates 28

Larecus Armbrister scored 11 points and Delano Knowles hit the winning free throw in their 19-and-under win. Randy Williams also had 11 in the loss.

Macedonia No.2 60,

Faith United 44

Van Hutchinson exploded for a game high 24 points and Tenerro Ferguson had 15 in their 19-and-under win. Travis Barnett had 18 in the loss.

Faith United A 67,

Faith United B 7

Shadren Boateng had a game high 16 points and Travis Barnett added 12 in their 15-and-under win. Alvin Anderson scored four in a losing effort.
