BRANDON Murray produced a career day that most players - at any level - can only dream of having on the baseball diamond and set several school records in the process.

The power hitting junior outfielder drove in nine RBI in the College of Charleston Cougars’ 18-5 win over the Davidson Wildcats Sunday afternoon.

Murray drilled a grand slam, a three-run home-run and a two-run double to set a new single game RBI record for the school in the victory. It was the first grand slam of Murray’s career, and it was also the first multi-homer game of his career.

For his historic effort, he was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

His nine RBIs were the third most in a single game by any college player in the country this season, and the most by a conference player in five years.

For the entire weekend series against the Wildcats, Murray finished with three home runs, 13 RBI and a 1.154 slugging percentage.

The Cougars have have a 20-15 record thus far on the season, 11-6 in the Conference.

As a sophomore, Murray was named to the All-Southern Conference Second Team and led the Cougars with 12 home runs, which ranked sixth in the Southern Conference and had a .330 batting average.

He totalled 42 RBI and had .570 slugging percentage. He ended the year with an 11-game hit streak.

During that season his over-the-fence catch, robbing a hitter of a home run, was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter in May. It moved to No. 1 after debuting at No. 2 on May 9.

In his debut season as a freshman with the Cougars, he played in just 21 games and started in five contests and hit .290 on the season.

Murray joined the Cougars in 2009 after a storied career with Trinity Christian Academy in North Carolina. He helped Trinity to a 80-13 record in three seasons at the school.

As a senior he played in 26 games and hit .474 (20-78) with five home runs and 30 RBI. He finished with 29 runs scored, eight doubles and four triples.

In his junior season he hit .428 with two home runs, 21 RBI, 32 runs scored with eight doubles and six triples.

As a freshman, he hit .615 with five home runs and 52 RBI.

The Palm Beach Post recognised Murray as first team all county for three consecutive years while at Trinity Christian.

Off the field, Murray was a part of the honours programme and ranked in the top five percentile of his class.

Locally he was a member of the Junior Baseball League of Nassau and has represented the Bahamas on several national teams.
