A 27-year-old man became the country’s latest murder victim when he was shot early Saturday morning, in what police say was a fight over a woman.

The incident occurred around 2:45am.

Police say the victim, who sources identify as Alexandro ‘Ali’ Bain, was at the South River Restaurant on Baillou Hill Road when he got into an argument with another man over a woman in the bar.

The argument escalated outside. The second man produced a handgun and shot Bain several times.

The suspect then fled the scene with two other men on in a gold Buick Century.

Moments later, one of the three was arrested by police and an imitation pistol was confiscated.

Police also located the Buick a short time later in the Carmichael Road area.

Two other suspects are still at large. Anyone with information on this murder is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS or contact your nearest police station.

Friends and family of Ali expressed their sympathy on social media yesterday, describing the young man as a “kind, sweet, person with a big heart.”

A graduate of C V Bethel High School, he had one son.

The country’s murder count now stands at 31.

This latest killing came three days after the alleged leader of the infamous Fire and Theft gang was killed late in the Carmichael Road area.

Julian Collie, also known as “Heads”, was shot to death at 10:45 p.m. shortly after he and another man arrived at a Miller’s Heights home.

Police said two men got out of a Honda Civic and sprayed Collie and his friend with bullets.

The gunmen then got back in the car, which was driven by a third man, and fled the scene.

Police confirmed that Collie, 34, of Price Street, Nassau Village, was wanted for a number of crimes, including murder.

Police also say they have a man in custody in connection with that murder.

Last week, Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade said crime in the Bahamas had decreased by 13 per cent compared to the same period last year – January 1 to April 15. Murder also decreased by 26 per cent, he said.

Police confirmed that Collie, 34, of Price Street, Nassau Village, was wanted for a number of crimes, including murder. Was he actually wanted for the crimes, or wanted for questioning concerning the various crimes? Reason being, I personally could recall an occassion when Collie along with a group of others were searched by D.E.U. Officers off Mount Royal Avenue. At that time when asked his (Collie) name one of the officers responded, "thats Jullian Collie - Heads." So if this was a 'wanted for a number of crimes, including murder' individual, why wasn't he taken into custody then. Oh, and that was just seven weeks - two months if that long ago.

Using the media, the police mentally try to make the public believe that an element of crime no longer exist but for us who make use of our common sense, we know better. Day after day it is printed how much arrests have been made, but we are not fools, its NOT how much persons you (law enforcement) arrest, its how many are convicted that matter in removing an element of crime.
